JOB POSTING:  Front Desk/Intake Coordinator

Part-Time | 2-3 Days per Week


The following is a job posting for a part-time position within our organization. Job Description (Nature of the Position)

The primary job responsibilities for this position are as follows:

  1. Operate the TAPS Front Desk, interacting with new and existing clients by phone and in-person, and connecting them to the appropriate staff member or volunteer through message or transfer.

  2. Provide information and referral to clients when we are unable to assist them.

  3. Forge and maintain connections with the front desk operators of other non-profit and community organizations, and share relevant information about scope of our services and restrictions as needed.

  4. Work with the Volunteer Coordinator and the front desk volunteers to ensure proper coverage of the front desk on scheduled days off, and maintain the transfer of information between all front desk operators.

  5. As required, work with staff to facilitate the transfer of documents and mail to clients, and assist in the gathering of documents from clients.


Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Education, and Skills

There are no specific educational qualifications for this position. The successful candidate should:

  1. Be knowledgeable about the workings of an office and its operations;

  2. Be capable of managing requests from multiple staff members, and prioritizing responsibilities;

  3. Be comfortable operating a computer and multiple extension telephone system; and

  4. Have a positive and non-judgmental attitude towards people in poverty.


Hours of Work and Compensation

This position is part-time (2-3 days/week or 14-21 hours/week), with the possibility of increased hours in the future. The position pays $23/hr for the length of the probationary period, and $28/hr for employees who have completed the probationary period. TAPS is a member of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 374, and further increases are subject to the terms of our collective agreement. The start date for this position is flexible, but we desire a candidate who can join us as soon as possible.
