Making Early Childhood Development a Priority – From the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives – Study linking poverty and early childhood development objectives.  Early childhood development has been as having lifelong impacts on health and well-being.  Poverty can have a severe impact on childhood development, both because of the childhood environment, and because of the lack of access to early childhood development resources.  This study focuses on Vancouver, showing links between early childhood development outcomes and income disparaties across neighborhoods.
The Impact of Poverty on the Health of Children and Youth - Research paper correlating poverty with the health of children and families.  The author takes a “population health” approach, using a measurement of health, the capacity of individuals to pursue personal growth goals and access skills and education. This means looking at health in terms of social, economic and environmental factors in addition to physical health.  The author shows how poverty impacts the health of children and families to highlight the need for policy change in areas of housing, education, childcare, health services and social assistance.

Pathways to Progress — Structural Solutions to Child Poverty – From Campaign 2000 – This paper outlines the structural causes of child poverty in Canada, and shows, by comparison with other nations, that the solutions, in the areas of taxation, social safety net, housing and childcare, are economically realistic.
