TAPS has successfully represented a client who was assessed as owing several thousand dollars to the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation for what the Ministry had determined was an overpayment of disability assistance to the client. The TAPS advocate was able to show that the client was indeed eligible for the money they had received, and therefore there was no overpayment. The overpayment was reduced to zero.
Recipients of income assistance are sometimes assessed as having received overpayments that they then must repay. Many of these overpayment decisions are based on incorrect information or a misapplication of legislation and/or policy. If you have been assessed by the Ministry as having received an overpayment, please contact one of our income assistance legal advocates for help at 250-361-3521.
